Influencer Set Ablaze: Brutal Attack Near Morinda

Punjabi social media influencer Manjeet Kaur, who commanded a significant following on Instagram, died on August 26, 2026, at PGIMER. Her death followed a brutal alleged abduction and assault near Morinda approximately two months prior. Kaur was reportedly called to Sector 34 in Chandigarh on the night of July 3-4, 2026, by two acquaintances.

According to her mother's complaint, Kaur was assaulted, forced into a vehicle, and taken to a forested area near Morinda. There, she was allegedly tied to a tree and set on fire before the assailants fled. Another acquaintance discovered her and attempted to extinguish the flames.

Kaur sustained severe burn injuries and received treatment at multiple hospitals before her condition worsened at PGIMER. Her death has brought scrutiny over the alleged delay in recording her statement, as sources indicate she was conscious and able to speak at PGIMER. The hospital's police post reportedly notified the relevant police station, but the investigating officer allegedly did not visit.

Following Kaur's death, her mother filed a complaint, leading to the registration of an abduction and murder FIR. Punjab Police have denied any negligence, stating the abduction occurred in Chandigarh and was thus under Chandigarh Police's jurisdiction, while asserting Kharar police provided assistance.

Chandigarh Police are actively investigating the case, reviewing CCTV footage and other evidence to reconstruct the events and identify the vehicle used in the abduction from Chandigarh to Morinda.
