Infant Hospitalized After Alleged Assault by Adult Woman in Florida

On October 16, 2025, a 5-month-old infant was taken to a local hospital in Florida with serious injuries, including a fractured skull and bruising to an arm and leg. An investigation by the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office found that the injuries occurred during a domestic altercation between the suspect, 38-year-old Georgeina Hayes, and an adult female victim.

According to the authorities, Hayes allegedly attempted to strangle the adult victim, but the woman was able to break free, grab the infant, and seek refuge in a bedroom. As the woman tried to close the door, Hayes reportedly began throwing punches, several of which struck the 5-month-old baby. The blows resulted in the infant's injuries.

Hayes was arrested and charged with battery by strangulation (domestic) and aggravated child abuse. The woman's bond is set at $55,000, and it is unclear if she has legal representation. The current condition of the infant has not been released, and the relationship between the suspect, the adult victim, and the child is also unclear.

The St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office has thanked the Fort Pierce Police Department for the swift coordination between agencies and remains committed to pursuing justice for the most vulnerable members of the community.
