Summary
- Indian national arrested in New Mexico child exploitation sting.
- Bodycam footage of the arrest went viral on social media.
- Operation involved using fake online accounts to catch offenders.
In a recent undercover sting operation, the Santa Fe Police Department in New Mexico apprehended four individuals, including a 26-year-old Indian national named Nagaraju Balkam. This operation, aimed at combating child sexual abuse, led to Balkam's arrest on charges of child exploitation and solicitation via electronic communication.
Bodycam footage documenting Balkam's arrest was released by the police department in the first week of March and has since gained significant traction on social media. The footage depicts officers confronting and detaining Balkam, who was subsequently taken into custody.
The undercover operation, conducted by the Special Victims Unit in collaboration with local law enforcement, involved detectives creating fake profiles on various online platforms. These profiles were used to interact with potential offenders before their arrest, effectively disrupting a child exploitation ring.
In addition to Balkam, the operation resulted in the arrests of Eduardo Ramirez, 55; Harold Adams, 29; and Tomas Cacjo, 59. The Special Victims Unit typically investigates severe crimes against children, including abuse, neglect, and abandonment, as well as cases involving missing or runaway juveniles.
