Summary
- Driver led police on a chase before crashing into a power pole.
- Live hydro lines fell on the truck, delaying arrest.
- The 49-year-old driver had double the legal blood alcohol limit.

A dangerous pursuit ended with a driver crashing into a power pole in Abbotsford on Sunday night, October 26, 2026. The incident began when an officer observed a driver exhibiting signs of impairment and attempted a traffic stop. The driver initially slowed but then accelerated, leading officers on a chase during which the vehicle swerved erratically.
The fleeing truck eventually crashed into a power pole on Laurnell Crescent, causing a transformer to fall onto the hood and live hydro lines to descend onto the roadway. Police stated that officers could not approach the vehicle due to the energized wires until B.C. Hydro crews arrived. These crews worked to restore power to 19 affected customers, later taking an additional 33 customers offline to complete pole repairs, which concluded by approximately 5 a.m. on October 27, 2026.
The 49-year-old driver was taken into custody after the power was secured. Breath samples revealed his blood alcohol content was double the legal limit. Police are recommending charges including impaired driving, dangerous operation of a vehicle, and flight from police. No injuries were reported, but authorities stressed the significant risk to public safety and damage to infrastructure caused by the driver's actions.
