Summary
- Over 300 pythons were discovered in a man's apartment.
- The seized pythons were valued at over $4.2 million.
- Three men were sentenced to prison for illegal python operations.

In Taizhou, Zhejiang province, a large-scale illegal python breeding operation was uncovered, resulting in the sentencing of three men. The investigation began after an unusual snake sighting near a mountain in March 2024, prompting authorities to look for a captive breeder. Reviewing electricity consumption records led investigators to a man identified as Guo, whose apartment was found to be filled with hundreds of pythons.
Authorities discovered evidence of the operation, including social media posts and sales records of pythons for approximately $140 each. When officers searched Guo's apartment, they found 309 pythons in plastic containers that had replaced the living room and two bedrooms. The animals were transferred to a local zoo.
Guo admitted to starting with four pythons in 2014. He and another man, Di, had reportedly sold 80 pythons before their arrest. A third man, Deng, who allegedly supplied Guo's initial snakes, was also apprehended. The case involved a total of 436 pythons, with an estimated value exceeding $4.2 million. All three individuals have been sentenced to prison, though specific details of their sentences were not disclosed.
