- Over 20 women victims suspected in a racket worth crores.

Authorities recently apprehended three women in Badlapur East for their involvement in an illegal egg donation scheme. The operation, which utilized a residential apartment and a sonography center, preyed on vulnerable women, offering them between ₹25,000 and ₹30,000 per cycle.
Victims were allegedly administered hormonal injections to stimulate egg production. Their eggs were then surgically extracted at IVF centers and subsequently sold for substantial sums, reportedly amounting to lakhs of rupees per donation. Investigations suggest over 20 women may have fallen victim to this racket.
The illegal trade, previously active in Vangani before relocating to Badlapur, is estimated to have a turnover in the crores. Police are currently investigating the potential involvement of IVF centers, doctors, and hospitals, with the expectation that more high-profile individuals may be implicated as the probe progresses.
A case has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Assisted Reproductive Technology Act, as authorities continue to uncover the full extent of this illicit trade.
