In Mumbai, a sessions court has formally charged IIT-Bombay student Arman Khatri. The charges relate to the alleged abetment of suicide and criminal intimidation concerning the death of fellow student Darshan Solanki in 2023. Additionally, charges have been framed under the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Khatri has entered a plea of not guilty, and the case is now set for trial. Darshan Solanki, a first-year B Tech student, reportedly died by suicide in February 2023, shortly after his semester examinations concluded. An investigation team later found a note in Solanki's room that purportedly named Khatri as responsible for his death.
Police arrested Khatri in April 2023 on charges of abetment to suicide and criminal intimidation under the Indian Penal Code, subsequently invoking the Atrocities Act. The court explained the charges to the accused, after which he entered his plea. The trial court has scheduled further proceedings for April 27, 2026.
