Idaho Killer's Innocence Claim Rocks Case

A new Netflix documentary, 'The Idaho Murders: College Nightmare,' premieres on July 29, 2026, revisiting the 2022 murders of four University of Idaho students. The film focuses on victims Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin, who were found stabbed to death in their Moscow home.

Bryan Kohberger, who had previously pleaded guilty and was sentenced to four consecutive life sentences plus ten years for burglary, is now claiming innocence. In a recent interview, Kohberger stated he is filing to withdraw his guilty plea, alleging he was misled during plea negotiations. This marks his first public comment since his sentencing.

The investigation initially identified Kohberger through DNA found on a knife sheath at the crime scene and a white Hyundai Elantra seen near the property. He was arrested on December 30, 2022, after his father's trash DNA matched the sample. Prosecutors had previously stated they did not believe Kohberger would provide a truthful motive.

The documentary aims to shift focus back to the lives of the four students. Meanwhile, Kohberger's assertion of innocence has been met with strong reactions, including comparisons to an unswattable mosquito from the Goncalves family, who emphasized honoring the victims' memories.
