The judge stated that while these funds may no longer be available, Kohberger is likely to continue receiving donations in the future, particularly from his own family.
The ruling also noted that Kohberger can secure paid prison employment, and with his limited needs, he may be able to meet his financial restitution obligations over time. However, the judge warned that Kohberger could potentially profit from sharing his story in the future, and the victims' families may not be able to recover any such earnings.
The additional restitution order comes as the families of the four murdered students - Xana Kernodle, Ethan Chapin, Goncalves, and Mogen - paid tribute to their loved ones on the heartbreaking anniversary. Kohberger, who is serving a life sentence in Idaho's maximum-security prison, has refused to reveal his motive for the brutal killings.
