Hyderabad Treasure Scam: Gold Coins, Coal Used to Cheat Victims

Four individuals have been apprehended by Hyderabad Police in connection with an elaborate treasure scam that allegedly defrauded 11 people of approximately Rs 1 crore. The accused, identified as painters, electricians, and mechanics, purportedly lured victims by claiming expertise in locating hidden treasures beneath their homes. These individuals are from various parts of Hyderabad and the Medchal-Malkajgiri district.

The scam involved the fraudsters convincing victims of their ability to find "Gupta Nidhulu." After gaining trust, they would conduct digging operations where they allegedly buried sacks of coal and duplicate gold-coated coins. The unearthed items were presented as proof of treasure, with the coal purportedly transforming into gold over time.

Investigators detailed that the main accused, Mohd Munawar, allegedly devised the plan due to financial struggles. He recruited three others for the scheme, operating in Hyderabad and nearby areas. The police have recovered vehicles, mobile phones, and items used in the fraud, including 25 fake gold coins, 6 kg of coal, soil, and puja materials. A case has been registered, and further investigations are ongoing.
