The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Hyderabad police has made significant progress in the murder case of Tanuja Ranjan, wife of retired IPS officer Vinay Ranjan Ray, by apprehending four additional accused from Nepal. These arrests bring the total number of apprehended suspects to five out of nine allegedly involved. The SIT, formed on May 19, 2026, is actively pursuing leads to capture the remaining individuals. Tanuja Ranjan was found deceased in her Jubilee Hills residence on May 8, 2026, with evidence suggesting a robbery turned fatal. Her domestic helper, Dharma alias Kalpana, is identified as a key figure who allegedly facilitated the crime after being recruited in June 2025. She maintained contact with absconding accused Bikas, a Nepalese national based in Pune, who orchestrated the robbery plot. Previously, on May 22, 2026, police arrested Sunil Bahadur Aauji alias Sunil Pariyar and Dilip Bahadur Mijar alias Sonar in Pune, recovering 26 grams of stolen gold. The recent arrests on Monday include Dharma Tiruwa alias Kalpana, BK Ganesh, Chandra Bahadur Tamang, and Ganesh Bahadur Shahi, from whom ₹51,130 in cash was seized. Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar urged the public to verify the antecedents of domestic workers, suggesting checks via Nepal's citizen portal. The investigation continues for absconding accused Bikas, Sujan, Dileep, and Netra Shahi.
