The case originated when Gangyad Nagamani filed a complaint at the Nawabpet police station, accusing her brother, Satyanarayana, and his wife, Lakshmi, of beating her husband, Prabhakar, to death. She cited past enmity as the motive behind the brutal act. Investigations confirmed the couple's culpability, leading to their conviction by the special court judge M Bhavani.
Both Kottapalli Satyanarayana and Kottapalli Lakshmi were each ordered to pay a fine of Rs 15,000 for the murder charge and another Rs 15,000 for the SC/ST Act offense, totaling Rs 30,000 per convict.
