Summary
- Husband sentenced to life for murdering his wife.
- Parents acquitted despite dowry death allegations.
- Key prosecution witnesses recanted their statements.

In Mainpuri, India, a court has handed down a life sentence to Sachin Yadav for the murder of his wife, Roshni. The 30-year-old daily-wage earner was convicted of strangling his 24-year-old wife at their home in Keshopur village on May 29, 2024.
The prosecution's case faced challenges as Roshni's brother and sister, who were key witnesses, recanted their statements. They claimed to have filed the initial complaint under local pressure and denied allegations of dowry demands or torture.
Despite the witnesses turning hostile, medical evidence proved crucial. The post-mortem report indicated death due to asphyxia from ante-mortem strangulation, detailing ligature marks and contusions. The court convicted Sachin under Section 302 of the IPC, sentencing him to life imprisonment and imposing a fine of Rs 25,000.
Sachin's parents, Chandraprakash and Kamla Devi, were acquitted of all charges, including dowry death and cruelty. The case initially began with allegations of dowry death, but the final verdict focused on the murder conviction of the husband.
