Gurugram Police have apprehended a 25-year-old man, Ankit, and his 38-year-old girlfriend, Rajni Devi, for the alleged murder of Ankit's wife. The victim, aged 22, had married Ankit in February 2026.
Investigators believe the murder, which occurred on May 21, was pre-meditated. Ankit reportedly convinced his wife to visit Rajni's rented room in Manesar, where he is accused of shooting her with an illegal firearm. The weapon was allegedly obtained from Uttar Pradesh two months prior.
The victim's mother reported her daughter missing on May 22 when the family could not provide a satisfactory explanation for her whereabouts. The subsequent investigation led to the discovery of the victim's body, escalating the case to a murder inquiry.
Following the crime, Ankit and Rajni fled to Haridwar and later to Nepal, remaining absconders for over a month. They were arrested on June 30 after returning to India. Both are currently in police custody for further interrogation, facing charges of murder and criminal conspiracy.
