Husband's Deception Exposed in Wife's Murder

Kristil Krug was found murdered in her Broomfield, Colorado garage on December 14, 2023. Her husband, Dan Krug, reported the crime and appeared to be a grieving widower, but investigators soon uncovered a complex plot. Kristil had reported being terrorized by a stalker, identified as Anthony Holland, leading police to initially investigate him.

However, digital forensic analysis revealed that Kristil's threatening messages were sent from Dan Krug's workplace Wi-Fi. Further investigation showed that Dan had pre-programmed texts on Kristil's phone to establish an alibi and had conducted internet searches on head trauma and unconsciousness the day before her murder. He was also captured on security footage taking a selfie that was then sent to Kristil as part of the impersonation.

Dan Krug was arrested and charged with stalking and murdering his wife. Prosecutors argued he staged the stalking to control Kristil and, when that failed, resorted to murder. He was convicted of first-degree murder and stalking and sentenced to life in prison, though he continues to maintain his innocence.
