On 24 September, a man named Kunal was returning home from work in Haryana when he was stopped and beaten by his wife Komal's family. The 25-year-old suffered broken arms and legs in the attack, which was carried out with sharp weapons.
Kunal and Komal had married against her parents' wishes around a year ago, in June 2024. However, within just 3-4 months, Komal left Kunal and returned to her maternal home. Komal then filed a domestic violence case against Kunal, demanding a monthly maintenance of Rs 30,000 despite his own salary being only Rs 12,000.
Kunal later learned that Komal's family had arranged her marriage to another man in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli. When Kunal was returning home with his father, he was attacked by bikers, who were allegedly sent by Komal's father. The attackers demanded that Kunal delete the wedding photos he had posted on Instagram, and when he refused, he was brutally assaulted.
Kunal and Komal are still legally married, with the case pending in court. Kunal is currently under medical treatment for his injuries. The police have registered a case against Komal's father, uncle, and others involved in the attack.
