Police in Rampur have uncovered a chilling double murder disguised as a road accident. A contractor, Dan Singh, is accused of murdering his three-year-old son and constable wife, Lata Singh, to claim nearly Rs 2 crore in insurance and service benefits. Initial reports claimed a car fire after hitting a dumper, but Singh's survival raised suspicions.
Investigators revealed Singh allegedly sedated his wife and son before dousing their vehicle in petrol and setting it ablaze. While the child perished, the wife reportedly escaped the flames. She was then allegedly forced into another vehicle and bludgeoned to death with a hammer by accomplices.
The couple had traveled to Nainital, with Singh's relative Ravi Kumar accompanying them on the return journey. Singh reportedly deliberately crashed the car, stopped at a secluded spot, and administered sedatives. His friends then arrived, set the car ablaze, and fled.
After Lata Singh survived the fire, Singh summoned another associate, Noor Hasan, to complete the murder. Police have filed charges against five individuals, with Singh, Noor Hasan, and another accomplice already in custody. The murder weapon and vehicles have been recovered. Singh married Lata in 2021, and their relationship had deteriorated. Notably, his first wife also died under mysterious circumstances, which is now under investigation.
