Human remains have been discovered on a property in San Diego's Southcrest neighborhood, linked to Dwight William Rhone, a man already in custody for a homicide. Rhone, 74, is now considered a person of interest in this new cold case investigation.
The discovery was made Tuesday by the California Highway Patrol and FBI during a search of a property where Rhone formerly resided as a tenant. Investigators from the San Diego Police Department's Cold Case/Missing Persons Unit also assisted in the operation.
Rhone has been incarcerated since December 2024, facing a murder charge for the death of Bernardo Moreno, who was found fatally shot and set on fire on Interstate 5 in October 2023. Authorities have not yet announced any charges related to the newly found human remains.
