Hull Pond Poachers Strike After £21M Renovation
7 Jul
Summary
- Poachers reportedly stole fish from a city centre pond in Hull.
- The incident occurred at Queen's Gardens after a £21m renovation.
- Vandalism and littering have also been reported at the gardens.

Humberside Police are investigating alleged poaching at Queen's Gardens in Hull. Reports indicate a fish was stolen from a city centre pond over the weekend. This incident occurred subsequent to a three-year, £21 million renovation project that fully reopened the gardens in May.
A video circulating on social media appears to show the alleged theft, depicting a person fishing and later a fish in a bag and on the ground. The pond, which was cleared and restocked post-refurbishment, contained ornamental carp and goldfish. The RSPCA expressed concern over scenes where fish are treated with distress.
This alleged poaching is the latest in a series of incidents at Queen's Gardens. Vandalism recently caused the fountain to be switched off. Littering, including discarded chewing gum and drink cans, has also been noted. In 2024, illegal fishing was reported nearby at Princes Quay Shopping Centre.
