2 Mar
Summary
- Comprehensive audit ordered for POSH Act implementation across state.
- Review to ensure safe, dignified, harassment-free workplace for women.
- Strict action threatened for negligence in implementing corrective measures.

In a significant move to ensure a safe and dignified workplace, Himachal Pradesh's Director General of Police, Ashok Tewari, has mandated a thorough audit of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act, 2013. This directive requires all police units and establishments across the state to complete a comprehensive review within a strict 15-day timeframe.
The audit's primary objective is to guarantee the stringent implementation of the POSH Act, focusing on the proper constitution and effective functioning of Internal Complaints Committees (ICCs). Authorities will also evaluate adherence to mandatory inquiry procedures, accurate record maintenance, and awareness initiatives for personnel.
This action follows a recent alleged sexual harassment case at the Police Training College in Kangra district. Following the incident, the instructor accused was immediately suspended, and an inquiry was initiated. The DGP's audit emphasizes immediate rectification of any identified deficiencies in ICCs and warns of strict punitive measures for negligence or concealment of information.
