Luxury Cars, Fake Bills: Houston Auto Fraud Ring Busted
7 Apr
Summary
- Nine cars seized in a Houston auto fraud operation.
- Fraudulent mechanic's liens used to claim false repairs.
- Over $900,000 in cash and assets were recovered.

Houston police have successfully shut down a significant auto fraud operation involving stolen luxury vehicles trafficked from California to Houston. The investigation culminated in the arrest of Talal Obeid, 35, who is accused of orchestrating a scheme that employed fraudulent mechanic's liens.
These fabricated repair claims, sometimes reaching over $60,000 for vehicles like a 2024 Mercedes-Benz, were used to illegally acquire money or ownership of the high-end cars. However, police inspections revealed no actual damage or repairs had been performed on the vehicles.
During a search warrant executed at a business on Windswept Lane, authorities confiscated nine exotic cars, substantial amounts of cash, and other assets valued at over $900,000. Obeid has contested the seizure, claiming some vehicles belong to clients undergoing repairs.
This takedown is part of a larger, ongoing effort by the Houston Police Department to combat organized auto fraud and the interstate movement of stolen vehicles.
