Hotel Faces Charges After Guest's Wardrobe Death
7 May
Summary
- A 21-year-old guest died after a wardrobe fell on her.
- The hotel faces 20 health and safety charges.
- A three-year-old girl was injured by a falling cabinet last summer.

The owners of The Britannia Adelphi Hotel in Liverpool are facing numerous charges for alleged health and safety violations following the tragic death of a guest. In September 2022, Chloe Haynes, aged 21, died in her hotel room after being crushed by a falling wardrobe.
Legal action, initiated by Liverpool City Council's environmental health department, has led to 20 charges against Britannia Hotels, presented through two limited companies. These charges encompass the fatal incident involving Ms. Haynes, a separate incident last summer where a young child was injured by a falling cabinet, and general concerns about unstable wardrobes in other guest rooms.
The case has progressed to Liverpool Magistrates Court, with District Judge Paul Healey referring it to Liverpool Crown Court for an initial hearing scheduled for June 4. Additionally, the companies are accused of failing to ensure certain room windows did not open too widely, posing another safety risk. Counsel for Britannia Hotels indicated that a plea has not yet been entered.
