29 Oct
Summary
- FIR registered against eight individuals, including hospital staff.
- Remains of a newborn were found being carried by a stray dog.
- Officials are investigating the alleged illegal termination of pregnancy.
Palamu police have initiated legal action by registering an FIR against eight individuals, including a private hospital operator, doctors, attendants, and an MMCH technician. This action follows the highly disturbing discovery of newborn remains being carried by a stray dog within the Medinirai Medical College and Hospital (MMCH) campus earlier this week.
The incident, which occurred recently, triggered significant public outcry and prompted an immediate inquiry by local authorities. Palamu's deputy commissioner and superintendent of police visited the hospital to oversee efforts to trace the origin of the fetus and identify those responsible for its disposal.
Investigators are reportedly looking into the possible involvement of an MMCH employee in an alleged termination of pregnancy that may have taken place at the private hospital. The police have appointed a sub-inspector to lead the investigation, which includes relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the POCSO Act, the PCPNDT Act, and the Clinical Establishments Act.
MMCH superintendent Dr. Ajay Kumar acknowledged the hospital's vulnerability to stray animals due to multiple entry and exit points, stating that the municipal corporation had been previously asked to manage stray dog populations around the campus.
