Patient Dies Amidst Hospital Brawl
19 Oct
Summary
- Patient died after relatives clashed with a doctor.
- Video shows doctor slapping a female attendant.
- Hospital denies negligence, cites patient's critical condition.

Tensions escalated at Gulab Devi Hospital following the death of 24-year-old Zulfiqar, who was admitted for a chest infection a week prior. His family alleges that hospital staff suspended treatment in retaliation for a dispute, directly leading to his death. This claim emerged after a video surfaced showing a lady doctor slapping a female relative, escalating into a broader physical confrontation.
The hospital administration, however, denies any negligence. Medical Superintendent Prof Dr Hamid Hassan stated that Zulfiqar required critical care on a ventilator and was receiving senior medical attention even after the incident. He asserted that the patient passed away due to his severe condition, not due to lack of treatment.
The patient's relatives presented a different narrative, accusing male doctors and security staff of assaulting the female attendants and holding them captive. They also criticized the police for excessive force during the arrests. The hospital management has refused to initiate an inquiry into the alleged negligence, while the Young Doctors Association Punjab has called for enhanced security for medical professionals.
