In a suspected honour killing, a 23-year-old woman was allegedly murdered with a hammer by her father in Ghumansar Kalan village, Rajasthan. The victim, Priyanka, a BSc graduate, reportedly wished to enter a love marriage, which led to a severe dispute with her father, Surendra Kumar Nehra.
The confrontation escalated on Saturday when the father allegedly struck Priyanka multiple times with a hammer, causing fatal injuries. The family then attempted to conceal the crime by claiming she had fallen down the stairs.
However, the family's deception was uncovered by Priyanka's maternal aunt, who arrived from Jaipur and noticed a significant wound on the victim's temple. Alerted by the aunt's suspicions, local police intervened, halting the funeral preparations and launching an investigation.
Preliminary findings by the police revealed bloodstains at the scene and inconsistencies in the family's statements. The father, who had reportedly threatened his daughter previously over her relationship, was arrested on Sunday. A medical board conducted a post-mortem examination following his arrest.
