Charges of vehicular homicide against Danny Sanchez have been dropped following a review of new evidence. Initially, state police believed Sanchez's vehicle struck motorcyclist Keegan 'Beckett' Thomas from behind on Interstate 25 in Albuquerque.
However, video footage recorded by a witness showed Thomas was already ejected from his motorcycle and lying in the road when Sanchez's BMW collided with the damaged bike. Prosecutors stated the defendant did not cause the death of the decedent.
Sanchez, 58, was initially charged with homicide by vehicle, but these charges were dismissed. He still faces misdemeanor charges for DWI and careless driving. Investigations indicated Sanchez showed signs of intoxication when questioned by police. Thomas, 24, was transported to a hospital where he later died from his injuries.
