A homeless man, identified as 30-year-old Sajmir Beca, has died following a horrific incident where he was crushed in the back of a bin lorry. The tragedy unfolded in Northampton town centre during the early hours of October 31, after neighbours heard screams. Emergency services were called to the scene on Wellington Street.
Mr. Beca, who was sleeping rough, sustained catastrophic injuries while inside an industrial bin that was collected by a Veolia lorry. He was transported to University Hospital Coventry, where he succumbed to his injuries on November 6. Police have stated there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.
An inquest into Mr. Beca's passing was opened, with the senior coroner confirming the medical cause of death as multiple organ failure resulting from severe crush injuries. The full inquest has been adjourned, with statements from the victim's brother and the police expected to be heard next year. Homelessness charities and the waste contractor have expressed their condolences.
