HC Slams Guntur Cops: Missing Girl Case 'Shame'
2 Sep
Summary
- High court criticizes Guntur police for failing to find a missing student.
- The student has been missing for nearly three months since June 9.
- Court demands DGP present the missing girl by Thursday.
The Andhra Pradesh High Court expressed strong dissatisfaction with the Guntur police's failure to locate a Class X student who has been missing for three months. The court described the situation as a "matter of shame" and questioned the investigation's effectiveness.
The girl's father filed a habeas corpus petition, alleging that police have not traced his daughter who went missing on June 9. He claims she was taken by a man she met on social media, who has allegedly taunted the police.
Despite police claims of forming teams and searching across three states, the court found the progress inadequate. Justices Battu Devanand and G Tuhin Kumar questioned the police's efforts to determine if the girl was voluntarily absent, kidnapped, or trafficked.
Observing that effective investigation should have yielded results by now, the court highlighted the police's failure despite available technology. The High Court has directed the Director General of Police to produce the missing student in court on Thursday.
