Authorities on Hawaii's Big Island are conducting an extensive manhunt for Jacob Baker, 36, who is wanted in connection with the deaths of three men. The victims, Robert Shine and John Carse, both 69, and an unidentified 79-year-old man, were discovered over a two-day period in a rural area. Baker, who police have labeled "armed and extremely dangerous," has been the subject of prior accusations of threatening and harassing behavior.
These allegations were made by two women earlier this month, who sought temporary restraining orders against Baker, citing his conduct at a farm. However, judges denied these requests due to insufficient proof. One woman claimed Baker threatened several women on the property, while the other alleged he threatened women and a disabled man, and intended to squat on the property.
Robert Shine was found partially submerged in a cement pond, with an autopsy indicating strangulation. John Carse died from sharp force trauma. The third victim's autopsy results are pending. Police Chief Reed Mahuna stated that guns were not used in the killings and that no motive has been identified. Significant resources, including federal and state assistance, are being utilized in the search for Baker.
