22 Feb
Summary
- 150 vehicles impounded in a three-day illegal parking drive.
- New app allows vehicle owners to track towed cars easily.
- Fines start at Rs 1,500 for first-time offenders.

Gurugram traffic police conducted a significant enforcement drive against illegal parking, impounding 150 vehicles over a recent three-day period. This operation targeted vehicles causing traffic congestion in busy areas, aiming to improve traffic flow. The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) introduced the Vehicle Tow App, enabling motorists to track the real-time location of their towed vehicles and access release instructions.
Authorities meticulously documented each violation with photographic evidence before towing. Vehicle owners can now retrieve their cars more efficiently via a QR-based citizen portal. Fines are tiered, with first-time offenders facing Rs 1,500 and repeat offenders incurring Rs 2,500, which includes a Rs 1,000 crane charge. The drive also addressed noise pollution, penalizing excessive honking and modified exhausts.
In January, 95 challans were issued for noise violations, totaling Rs 9.5 lakh in fines. These combined efforts by Gurugram Traffic Police underscore a commitment to enhancing road discipline and creating a safer commuting environment for residents. The enforcement aims to discourage habitual offenders and promote compliance with traffic regulations.
