Gurugram: Lawlessness on City Streets
14 Sep
Summary
- Retired IAF officer assaulted in parking dispute.
- Woman biker injured after car intentionally hits her.
- Retired army officer robbed and assaulted in road rage.
Gurugram, a rapidly developed city, is grappling with escalating lawlessness and public safety concerns. Recent incidents involving violence and disregard for the law have become a stark reminder of the risks faced by residents.
A retired Indian Air Force Group Captain, Amit Kumar Gupta, was assaulted and injured by parking attendants in a commercial area. He was reportedly sent to multiple parking levels before attendants refused to park his car and then attacked him with an iron rod when he tried to reverse.
In a separate incident, a woman biker, Sia, was intentionally struck by a car carrying intoxicated men on Golf Course Road. The car cut in front of her, causing her to fall and her motorcycle to be dragged. An action camera on her bike recorded the assault.
These events echo a similar incident six months prior, where a retired army officer, Colonel Anil Yadav, was assaulted and robbed during a road rage confrontation. The assailants reportedly dismissed his military background, boasting about their own influence.
Experts note that such frequent acts of violence and lawlessness in Gurugram, occurring in public view and often on camera, raise serious questions about the effectiveness of law enforcement and the prevalence of a 'my way or the highway' mentality among some individuals.
