Gurgaon police conducted a large-scale enforcement drive, issuing 2,720 traffic challans in a single day in preparation for the Holi festival. The crackdown, focused on enhancing road safety and traffic flow, resulted in 797 citations specifically for improper lane changes on March 2. This violation category saw the highest number of offenses.
Further action was taken against motorists for offenses such as wrong-side driving, triple riding, and illegal parking. The police also targeted vehicles with illegal black film, drunk driving, and those using mobile phones while operating a vehicle. A zero-tolerance policy was emphasized against drunk driving, dangerous driving, noise pollution, and speeding.
In addition to traffic enforcement, 37 special checkpoints were strategically placed throughout Gurgaon's various zones. A 24/7 social media monitoring mechanism is in place to track and address any hate speech or inflammatory content, with criminal proceedings threatened against violators aiming to disturb communal harmony.
Security arrangements for Holi include increased police presence in sensitive areas, malls, cinema halls, and transport hubs. Patrols have been intensified, particularly in areas prone to theft and snatching, with officers instructed to act against rash riding and hooliganism to ensure peaceful celebrations.
