Gurgaon police initiated 'Operation Ankush' on September 9 to combat the display of weapons and promotion of criminal behavior on social media. Over 2,000 social media accounts were examined by the police's Social Media Cell.
During this operation, 42 profiles were found to display weapons, while 17 promoted criminal tendencies. These accounts featured reels and videos, sometimes with songs glorifying criminal activities. Police detained individuals associated with these profiles and ensured the removal of inappropriate content.
Authorities registered three criminal cases under the Arms Act and are pursuing the cancellation of weapon licenses for individuals who displayed licensed firearms inappropriately. The Social Media Cell will continue monitoring platforms for such content and has appealed to the public to report such activities.
