In a concerning incident, a Gurgaon police constable was suspended and an FIR registered against him on September 23, 2025, after he misused his authority to harass a 50-year-old digital creator online.
The ordeal began on September 14, 2025, when the constable, who was on PCR duty, spotted the woman and found her "attractive." He noted her car's registration number and accessed her personal details through official channels, a clear violation of protocol. Using this information, he tracked down her Instagram account and left a comment directly referring to her recent movements.
Initially, the woman assumed the message was from a female follower. However, when she sought to know how the sender had identified her, the constable replied cryptically, suggesting that cops have "sharp eyes" and urging her to continue the conversation via Instagram direct messages.
Disturbed by the incident, the woman filed a formal complaint at the Cyber Crime police station on September 16, 2025. Though the police initially advised her to simply block the accused, they later took action, suspending the constable and registering an FIR against him under Section 79 of the BNS Act, which deals with acts intended to insult the modesty of a woman.
The woman expressed shock and dismay that a government-appointed official tasked with public safety had used his authority to invade her privacy. She lamented that even at the age of 50, she had to protect herself from such individuals, and she feared for younger girls who might face worse.
The incident has sparked outrage, highlighting the urgent need to address the abuse of power by authorities entrusted with the responsibility of protecting the public.
