A violent clash erupted on October 1st during the Durga Devi Jatra festival in Ankalagi village, Vijayapura. According to the police, a man with a licensed revolver allegedly opened fire on a group, leading to the incident.
The clash appears to have been fueled by an ongoing dispute between two families over the Durga Devi Temple and the annual festival. Padmavati Yamanappa Kurade, in her complaint, stated that her father, Govind Vaddar, had a long-standing disagreement with another person, Ram Timmanna Vaddar, regarding the temple and the jatra.
The situation escalated on October 1st when the opponents from Ram Vaddar's side reportedly attacked Padmavati's family. Seven of their relatives were injured in the incident, including their 13-year-old daughter Pallavi, who was shot by Ram Vaddar.
In a counter-complaint, Laxman Vaddar claimed that 11 people from Padmavati's family had attacked his associates on the same day, leaving five people injured.
The Vijayapura Rural police station has registered a case and a counter-case regarding the Ankalagi incident. As of now, 14 people have been arrested in connection with the clash.
