9 Dec
Summary
- Three men received life sentences for a 2018 gang rape case.
- The accused were convicted under Pocso and IPC provisions.
- The court ordered a Rs 5 lakh compensation for the victim.

In a significant ruling, a special Pocso court in Kalol town, Gandhinagar district, has handed down life sentences to three men for their involvement in a gang rape case from July 2018. Vipul Thakor, Arvind Thakor, and Baldevji Thakor will spend the remainder of their lives incarcerated for the crime.
The convictions stem from the abduction and subsequent gang rape of a minor. Vipul Thakor initially lured the victim to Saij village, where she was held and assaulted. Subsequently, Arvind Thakor and Baldevji Thakor abducted her again near the Narmada canal and subjected her to further assault. The court found all three guilty under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Pocso Act.
Beyond the life imprisonment, the court has imposed a Rs 50,000 fine on each convicted individual. While Arvind and Baldevji Thakor had previously jumped bail, an arrest warrant has been issued for them. The court also mandated a Rs 5 lakh compensation payment to support the victim.
