- Victim was a court interpreter, chosen at random.

Alexandre Garcès has been found guilty of attempted murder and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose in connection with a stabbing at the Longueuil courthouse in January 2024. The judge determined that Garcès, who has a history of mental health issues including Tourette syndrome and bipolar disorder, understood the wrongfulness of his actions. Therefore, his conditions did not absolve him of criminal responsibility.
During the attack on January 9, 2024, Garcès stabbed Hai Thach, a court interpreter, multiple times. Investigators initially believed the victim was selected at random. The judge suggested Garcès acted out of vengeance against society. Garcès had a history of violent episodes, leading to placement in a youth protection center at age 14.
