In a tragic incident that occurred in July 2021, a 22-year-old man named Romario Gordon was sentenced to jail for killing a 16-year-old boy, Camron Smith, in front of his mother in their Croydon home.
According to the court proceedings, Gordon was part of a group armed with knives who were "effectively hunting as a pack" and had targeted Camron at his residence. When the group kicked down the door, Camron's mother, Audrey Johnson, tried to protect her son and even attempted to take a knife from one of the attackers. However, her efforts were in vain, and Camron was fatally stabbed in his bedroom.
The judge presiding over the case described the incident as a horrific scene, stating that she "cannot think of anything worse for a mother to see." Camron's mother expressed her anguish, saying that the day her son was killed was the day her soul died, and she is haunted by the memory every single day.
The other men involved in the attack were also convicted, with Romain La Pierre receiving a life sentence with a minimum term of 28 years, James Olanipekun being jailed for 8 years, and Jordan Tcheuko sentenced to 15 years in prison. The police are still searching for two other suspects connected to the killing.
