Summary
- Rescued dogs and cats from cruelty case are finding new homes.
- Owner faces at least 25 animal cruelty charges, due in court September.
- Granite City Animal Control faces overcrowding, seeks new facility.

Several dogs and two cats, rescued from a Granite City home following an animal cruelty investigation, are now showing their personalities in new foster homes and rescue shelters. These animals were found living in deplorable conditions, covered in waste, prompting at least 25 animal cruelty charges against the owner, who is scheduled for a court appearance in September.
Granite City Animal Control is currently at full capacity, with some dogs being temporarily housed and cared for in a public works facility. Local rescues, like Metro East Humane Society and Hope Animal Rescue, have taken in some of the younger animals, including puppies affectionately named after characters from "Ferris Bueller's Day Off." The shelter is also seeking community support for donations and is actively looking for land or an empty building to establish a new facility that would offer low-cost spay and neuter services to help mitigate future overcrowding issues.
Despite the ongoing challenges of managing a full shelter and continuously taking in new animals, the focus remains on finding permanent, loving homes for the rescued animals. The Granite City Animal Control Director expressed deep gratitude for the community's overwhelming generosity in donating toys, treats, and blankets.
