A traffic stop on Wednesday afternoon resulted in a significant drug seizure by the Grand Junction Police Department. The search yielded approximately 30 grams of suspected cocaine and about 4 grams of suspected methamphetamine, along with drug paraphernalia.
Michele Nielson, 38, was taken into custody and transported to the Mesa County Detention Facility. She faced charges related to the discovered substances. The police department has indicated that this appears to be an isolated incident, with no ongoing threat to the community.
Nielson appeared in court on Thursday and was granted a $2,500 personal recognizance bond. The 21st Judicial District Attorney's Office stated their belief that Nielson could be safely managed in the community, suggesting her primary struggle is with substance abuse rather than drug distribution. The investigation into the matter remains ongoing.
