Gorakhpur police have apprehended a man, his wife, and his father-in-law in connection with the murder of his former live-in partner. The victim, Priya Shetty, aged 35, was found nude and deceased under a bridge in PP Ganj on January 30th. Her face had been intentionally mutilated after death, and her head and beard shaved to conceal her identity.
According to police officials, the accused, Vijay Kumar Sahni, strangled Priya Shetty with the assistance of his wife, Sandhya. They then stripped the body, smashed her face with bricks, and dumped it below the Barghatta bridge. Surveillance footage and the testimony of an auto-rickshaw driver, who transported the trio on the night of the crime, were instrumental in leading to the arrests.
Vijay Sahni admitted to a relationship with Priya Shetty since 2012, with whom he had a son. After their separation and his marriage to Sandhya in 2014, Priya allegedly reconnected with him and began pressuring him to return to his hometown. The incident culminated on January 29th, following arguments and heavy drinking, where the murder took place. All three accused have been remanded to judicial custody.
