Teen Arrested in Double Homicide Linked to Drugs

In Gonzales, Louisiana, police announced the arrest of 17-year-old Joseph Appiah of Prairieville in connection with a double homicide that occurred on August 21st. Appiah faces multiple charges, including two counts of first-degree murder, criminal conspiracy, and drug distribution offenses. He is also charged with aggravated assault with a firearm and discharging firearms within city limits.

Officers responded to a report of gunfire on E. Caldwell St. and discovered the deceased victims, identified as 17-year-old Tegan Daigle of Gonzales and 21-year-old Jared Downey, the homeowner. Investigations, including witness accounts and video surveillance, identified a black BMW at the scene shortly before and after the shooting.

Evidence indicates that illegal drug activity was a factor in the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Detectives are continuing to investigate the extent of this involvement and have identified two additional persons of interest. The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office assisted in taking the suspect into custody. Police Chief Sherman Jackson described the incident as a 'senseless loss' of young lives due to 'bad decisions, drugs and violence.'
