Air Intelligence Unit officers at Trichy International Airport successfully prevented a gold smuggling operation on Thursday. A woman passenger, arriving on an IndiGo flight, was intercepted by customs officials.
During a thorough inspection, officers found six pieces of 24-karat gold, weighing a total of 155 grams, cleverly hidden within the knot of her saree. The gold was in a fragmented chain form.
This incident represents the second major gold seizure at Trichy airport within the current month. Previously, customs officers had recovered six abandoned gold bars totaling 600 grams from an aircraft's lavatory. Investigations into the latest seizure are ongoing.
