A 12-year-old Mason Creek Middle School student, Jada West, died on March 6, 2026, following a physical altercation that occurred near her home on March 5, 2026. The incident began with an argument on the school bus and escalated into a fight after West exited the bus with other children.
Her mother, Rashunda McClendon, rushed to the scene upon being alerted by a friend of Jada's and found her unresponsive. Jada was transported to Tanner Medical Center and later transferred to Children's Hospital Scottish Rite, where she passed away due to cardiac heart failure. Autopsy results are currently pending.
McClendon believes her daughter, who was new to the area, was a victim of bullying. The family also questions why the other child involved, who reportedly did not reside in the neighborhood or use that bus stop, was on the bus. Villa Rica police are reviewing cellphone video footage of the fight to determine if charges are warranted.
