Geno Smith Battery Case Dropped by Prosecutors

The Davie, Fla., police department announced on Tuesday that New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith will not face charges stemming from a battery accusation made last month. The investigation into the June 21 incident has officially been closed, with no further active steps planned by law enforcement.

A woman, identifying herself as Smith's ex-girlfriend, had contacted authorities claiming an assault occurred at his residence. She subsequently shared a video of the encounter on social media, though the footage did not contain evidence supporting an assault claim. Police noted that no one was arrested at the scene, and the woman was trespassed from Smith's home.

The official police report indicated that the lack of witnesses and surveillance footage prevented them from corroborating the allegations. Neither Smith nor the accuser provided further statements, leaving officers unable to determine the primary aggressor. Despite the legal closure, the NFL has stated it is aware of the situation and is in contact with the league.

While Smith has not publicly commented, the Jets have also remained silent on the matter. The league could still pursue disciplinary action against the 35-year-old quarterback if it finds a violation of its personal conduct policy.
