A woman has been convicted of murder for killing her female partner and concealing her body in their garden for 15 years. Anna Podedworna, 40, was found guilty by a jury at Derby Crown Court. She had denied murdering Izabela Zablocka, 30, claiming she accidentally killed her during an argument and dismembered and buried her because she feared her self-defense claim wouldn't be believed.
The jury also found Podedworna guilty of preventing a lawful burial and perverting the course of justice. The court heard that both women, who moved to the UK from Poland in 2009, had a volatile relationship. Tensions arose from arguments about money, alcohol, and Zablocka's reluctance to undergo gender reassignment surgery, which Podedworna desired.
Zablocka was reported missing by her family in 2010 after her calls stopped abruptly, but police initially closed the missing person's investigation. It was only when Zablocka's daughter and a Polish journalist inquired about her whereabouts that Podedworna contacted police, revealing the location of the body in May of the previous year (2025).
