Gangster's Aide Injured in Dramatic Police Shootout in Mohali

In a dramatic turn of events, a close associate of notorious gangster Lucky Patial was injured in a police encounter on November 9, 2025, in Kharar, Mohali. The accused, Ranbir Singh Rana, a resident of Gunomajra, is wanted in multiple criminal cases, including the recent firing incident outside the residence of the owner of Regenta Hotel in Sector 38, Chandigarh, and the shooting at Punjabi music producer Bunty Bains.

According to the police, the CIA Kharar unit received specific information about Rana's movements around 8:20 AM on the morning of the incident. Rana was reportedly travelling on a motorcycle from his village when the police team intercepted him. When the police asked Rana to surrender, he opened fire at the officers. In the retaliatory fire, the accused was shot in the leg and subsequently overpowered.

The police have seized a pistol and the motorcycle used by Rana. A forensic science team has examined the scene and collected ballistic and other physical evidence. SSP Mohali Harmandeep Hans stated that two of Rana's accomplices had already been arrested earlier, and the police were actively tracing his movements. "The accused was absconding in the firing cases. Today, he fired upon the police to evade arrest, following which the police retaliated in self-defence," the SSP said.

A case under charges of attempted murder and provisions of the Arms Act has been registered against Rana at Kharar police station. The injured accused has been admitted to the civil hospital for treatment and remains under police custody. Further investigation is underway to determine whether Rana was linked to any recent extortion or gang-related activities in the region.
