In Gadag, a serious case involving sexual assault and a subsequent cover-up has led to the arrest of seven people. The initial complaint detailed two men sexually assaulting a woman, resulting in her pregnancy. As the investigation progressed, it was revealed that four men were involved in the assaults on separate occasions.
When the victim's pregnancy reached three months, her parents learned of the ordeal. They reported that the accused attempted to suppress the case through financial inducements and threats. Police have registered an FIR under sections of rape and voluntarily causing miscarriage against the accused.
Three individuals, identified as Sandeep, Dr. Nagaraj, and nurse Rekha, allegedly administered abortion pills to terminate the three-month pregnancy. Simultaneously, a separate probe is underway to identify the owner of a medical shop suspected of selling abortion pills without a prescription, hinting at a potential illegal abortion racket.
The 26-year-old victim is currently receiving medical treatment and psychological counseling. Authorities state that the investigation is ongoing, and more arrests are anticipated.
