Satish Ruparelia, a convicted murderer, was apprehended by crime branch officers in New Ranip, Gujarat, on Sunday. He had been living under the assumed identity of Sanjay Thakkar for over a decade, having jumped parole 13 years prior. Ruparelia was originally convicted in 1994 for the brutal murder and beheading of a textile trader, Arvind Shah, after a business deal turned into a robbery. He was sentenced to death, which was later commuted to life imprisonment.
After being released on parole in 2013, Ruparelia failed to surrender and vanished. He successfully rebuilt his life, remarried in 2014, and established himself in New Ranip as a financial consultant and spiritual speaker. His decade-long deception ended when crime branch officers, acting on surveillance information, confirmed his identity and detained him at his residence. He will now return to judicial custody to complete his sentence.
