A 30-year-old man from Maharashtra, wanted for half a decade, surrendered to authorities and appeared before the II ACJ and JMFC Court in Puttur. Vishal Phonke had been absconding since 2016, evading proceedings related to four housebreaking and theft cases filed at Kadaba police station.
These cases, registered under Sections 457 and 380 of the Indian Penal Code, also involved several other individuals. While those accomplices had previously received two-year prison sentences, Phonke remained at large despite diligent efforts to locate him, leading to a proclamation being issued against him.
Following his court appearance, Phonke was remanded to judicial custody. He is also an accused in a separate, pending trial at the Puttur Rural police station, facing charges again under Sections 457 and 380 of the IPC.
